That’s what the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course is all about. You don’t have to be “advanced” to take it – it’s designed to advance your diving, so you can start right after earning your PADI Open Water Diver certification.
The course helps build confidence and expand your scuba skills through different Adventure Dives. You try out different specialties while gaining experience under the supervision of your PADI Instructor.

Short on time?
Adventure dives can be completed individually and signed off by your instructor.

Requirements for PADI Advanced Open Water:
To take the “standard” Advanced Open Water Diver certification course, you need to be at least 15 years old. Also, you have to be a certified PADI open water diver, which gives you the necessary core competencies and experience required to move up to the advanced level.
How many dives do you need for advanced open water?
There are two required dives – Deep and Underwater Navigation – and you choose the other three, for a total of five dives. During the Deep Adventure Dive, you learn how to plan dives to deal with the physiological effects and challenges of deeper scuba diving.
How deep can a junior open water diver go?
A PADI Jnr. Open Water Diver between the ages of 10 and 11 years may only dive with a PADI Professional, a certified parent or certified guardian to a maximum depth of 40ft/12M. A 12 to 14-year-old Jnr. Open Water Diver is qualified to dive to60ft/12M only when accompanied by a certified diver of legal age.
How long is PADI Open Water?
The usual course — PADI Open Water — takes 3 days. Most likely, you’ll have your first dive already on the first day. This course and the certificate that you’ll obtain will allow you to do 90 percent of available recreational dives with an instructor.
